Real-Time AI Interview Assistant: answers while the interviewer is still talking

A real-time AI interview assistant is only useful if the answer is on your screen while the conversation is still happening — not after you have typed the question into a chat, and not in a practice session the day before. Interview Copilot is a desktop app for macOS and Windows (Linux in beta) that hears the interviewer through the call’s system audio, notices when the question ends and starts writing a short answer you can say out loud in under a second. Below: how it works, what “real time” means in practice, and how it compares with LockedIn AI, Final Round AI and Parakeet AI.

See it work

Twenty seconds of a real round: the question, the answer, the follow-up — and what the interviewer sees.

No sound needed. Nothing is sped up.

Live help during the call, not a mock interview

Most products sold as AI interview assistants are preparation tools: mock interviews, question banks and feedback reports before the call. A real-time assistant works during the real interview. Interview Copilot does not join the meeting and adds no bot to the participant list; nothing is installed on the interviewer’s side. It runs on your computer, listens to the call’s audio and shows the answer in a small overlay window next to the conversation.

How it works: from the interviewer’s voice to an answer on screen

1. It listens to the call, not your microphone. The app captures the system audio — the interviewer’s voice as it arrives from the call app — and transcribes it as they speak. 2. It catches the end of the question. A pause or a question intonation tells it the utterance is finished, so it does not react to half-sentences, and fillers like “umm, so” are ignored. 3. It answers the latest wording. If the interviewer rephrases or clarifies, the answer follows the last version, and a follow-up continues the previous answer instead of starting over. 4. Nothing gets lost. A question that arrives while an answer is still being written waits in a queue and is answered next. With Auto-Answer on you press nothing at all; a single hotkey is there if you prefer to trigger answers yourself.

What “real time” means here

Real time is counted from the moment the interviewer stops talking. The answer starts appearing in under a second and streams in as it is written, so the first useful line is on screen before the whole answer is finished — a pause the length of “good question” rather than a silence that reads as not knowing. Two things decide whether that holds on your call: whether the transcript survives your interviewer’s accent and microphone, and whether a short first line is enough for you to start speaking. Both are easy to check on the free tier with a practice call, before a real interview depends on it.

Coding rounds: screenshot the task

Voice is only half of a technical interview. Press ⌘⇧⏎ (Ctrl+Shift+Enter on Windows) and the app works out what is on screen: a coding task gets a working solution with an explanation and the time complexity, finished code gets checked for bugs and edge cases, and a multiple-choice test gets an answer to each question. A long statement can go in up to three frames with ⌘⇧K, and if your solution fails, ⌘⇧B sends the error together with the previous solution and returns the fix. More on the AI coding interview assistant page.

Hidden from screen share on macOS and Windows

The overlay is a native window excluded from screen capture at the operating-system level, so when you share your screen on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, the shared picture and the recording show your normal desktop without it — on the free tier exactly as on Pro. One honest exception: the Linux build is a beta, and its overlay is not hidden from screen sharing. On Linux, connect your phone as a second screen: the overlay hides and the answers go to the phone (see phone as a second screen). How the exclusion works is on the screen-share page.

Works on the call app you already use

Because it listens to system audio and hides at the display level, the platform does not matter: Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Tencent Meeting and other call apps all work the same way, and so do coding pads in the browser such as CoderPad and HackerRank. There is no meeting plug-in to install and no bot that joins the call.

An AI answer generator you can actually say out loud

Plenty of people search for an “AI interview answer generator”. The difference between a generator and a live assistant is the shape of the answer. Here answers are short and in the first person, built to be spoken rather than read: the structure of the answer first, then the details. On Pro, add your resume and the job description and the answers draw on your real projects instead of textbook examples; on the free tier your resume is not sent anywhere, so answers are correct but generic. Either way it is a prompter, not a script — it gets you to the right starting point, and you still hold the conversation, including the follow-up question.

Price: a free tier, then 25 $ for 30 days

The free tier needs no card: 5 minutes of live recognition and 3 coding-screenshot solutions — enough for a practice call or a short screening round. Pro is 25 $ for 30 days, paid once on the payment page, with no subscription and no auto-renewal: when the month ends, the app drops back to the free tier instead of billing you again. Pro adds higher-quality answers and personalisation to your resume. The free tier is described in detail on the free interview copilot page.

Real-time help compared: LockedIn AI, Final Round AI, Parakeet AI

All three sell help during a live interview, and all three price it differently. The figures below are the ones published in our reviews, read from each vendor’s own pricing page. For the details, see the reviews of LockedIn AI, Final Round AI and Parakeet AI, or the three-way comparison.

Checked Oct 2026: prices read from each vendor’s own pricing page on 13 October 2026 and rechecked on 14 October 2026; Final Round AI rechecked again on 18 October 2026, when it showed two price sets. Parakeet AI showed euro prices for our region. Prices move — check before you buy.

FAQ

What is a real-time AI interview assistant?

An app that helps you during the live interview rather than before it. Interview Copilot hears the interviewer through your computer’s system audio, detects when a question ends and shows a short answer on your screen while the conversation is still going — unlike mock-interview trainers, which only work in practice sessions.

How fast does the answer appear?

The answer starts in under a second after the interviewer stops speaking and streams in line by line, so the first useful sentence is on screen before the full answer is finished. A coding screenshot is handled the same way: the solution starts streaming within about a second.

Does it work on Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet?

Yes, and on Webex, Tencent Meeting and other call apps. It captures the call’s system audio and hides at the operating-system level, so it does not depend on the video platform, and no bot joins the meeting.

Is it visible when I share my screen?

Not on macOS or Windows: the overlay is excluded from screen capture by the operating system, so screen shares and recordings show your desktop without it, on the free tier too. The Linux build is a beta and is not hidden from screen sharing; there, use your phone as a second screen.

Do I have to press a key for every question?

No. With Auto-Answer on, the app detects the end of each question and answers on its own, and questions that arrive while it is still answering wait in a queue. A hotkey is available if you prefer to trigger answers manually.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, with no card: 5 minutes of live recognition and 3 coding-screenshot solutions. Pro is 25 $ for 30 days, paid once, with no subscription and no auto-renewal.

Which languages does it work in?

The app works in 28 languages, and the question and the answer do not have to match: the interviewer can ask in English while you read the question translated and the answer in your own language. Technical terms are corrected automatically.
